Join any of our One Hour Workshops and improve your knitting or crocheting skills!

Saturday classes are offered from 11:00-noon, with one exception -- please see below for more details.

Sunday classes are offered from 2:00-3:00.

Please check the description for each class below to see the exact requirements.

Some of these sessions require homework to be completed before class. 

Italian Tubular Cast On & Italian Tubular Bind Off -- Saturday, September 6, 11:00-noon

Many knitting patterns use this lovely cast on and bind off. They create matching edges when used together. Both create an edge that looks seamless, especially when used with a one-by-one ribbed fabric. In this hour, learn the learn these techniques so you are ready for your next knitting project.

Homework to be completed before class -- Knit a small swatch of 1 x 1 ribbing:

Cast on 10 stitches using any cast on method.

Row 1: K1, P1 across the row.

Repeat Row 1 seven times.

You can either leave this swatch on your needle, or bring it on waste yarn ready to be added to your needle for the second half of class.

 

Reading Charts in Knitting -- Sunday, September 7, 2:00-3:00

Getting comfortable reading charts in your knitting patterns can really open up your knitting world. Reading charts can save lots of mistakes. Lace, mosaic, and stranded colorwork patterns become so much simpler once you are comfortable reading charts!

No homework.

 

Button Holes and Buttons -- Sunday, September 14, 2:00-3:00 

Try a couple of different buttonhole options for your knitted project and learn a few ways to attach buttons to your project.

Homework:  There will be a little homework. Students will knit a small swatch. Details to follow.

 

Short Rows -- Saturday, September 20, 11:00-noon

Learn the basics of two popular short row techniques: the Wrap and Turn method and the German Short Row method. Learn them both and then decide which you would like to use in your project. You will no longer have to feel intimidated by any knit pattern using short rows!

Homework:  Students will be asked to have a small swatch of knitting on their needles. Details to come.

 

Crochet Charts -- Sunday, September 21, 2:00-3:00

Have you ever noticed how wordy crochet instructions can be? Simplify your pattern reading life by learning how to read crochet charts!

No homework.

 

Using Double Pointed Knitting Needles -- Saturday, September 27, 11:00-noon

Ok, it’s time to put aside your prejudice against the double pointed knitting needles. DPNs are without a doubt the most flexible type of knitting needles for knitting in the round. Learn more about these ever so useful tools! 

No homework, but knitters will need to bring a set of five DPNs in either size US 6, 7 or 8.

 

Blocking -- Saturday, October 4, 11:00-noon

To make great knit and crochet projects, we start with blocking and end with blocking. Learn good habits for blocking your knit and crochet gauge swatches and finished projects. Discover several helpful tools and techniques for successful blocking.

No homework.

  

Quick Fixes -- Sunday, October 5, 2:00-3:00

Accidents happen! Understand how to get your knitting back on the needles correctly and how to fix some of the problems that happen as you work through your project.

Homework: There will be a little homework. Students will knit a small swatch. Details to follow.

  

Crochet Foundation Stitches -- Sunday, October 12, 2:00-3:00

It can be tricky to make a nice edge working into a crochet chain. Learn how to make a nice elastic edge together with your first row of work for lots of crochet projects using foundation stitches.

 

Weaving In Ends -- Saturday, October 18, 11:00-noon

Learn the preferred way to weave in the ends of your completed projects. With this method, your ends will never come out!

Homework: There will be a little homework. Students will knit a small swatch. Details to follow.

  

Saturday, November 1 -- TWO SESSIONS:

Continental Knitting for Throwers, 11:00-noon

English Knitting for Pickers, 2:00-3:00

There are lots of great reasons to learn different ways to knit! Knitting with two colors, and giving your hands a rest are just two. Learn to knit “the other way!”

Homework: Students will cast on 30 stitches in any cast on method and work garter stitch for approximately one inch. Work will be left on the needle so we are ready to work!
