Fall Giving Project - Material Planning Guide

Start planning your Fall Giving project!

Our Fall 2022  Giving Projects are comfy hand-stitched pillows -- one crocheted and one knitted -- both by phenomenal designers. The Petite Knitter's Hytte Pillow features all-over stranded colorwork that will add a wow factor to your decor. Toni Lipsey's crocheted Maisy Velvet Pillow is stylish and mod, and a great way to experiment with color. Your yarn purchase for either of these projects will help support Midnight Run!

Both pillows were made using  Berroco UltraWool Chunky, a super-soft 100% superwash wool that is as easy to care for as it is quick to work up.

Please note that the number of skeins listed below are what we used for our samples. If you would like to make the piece in another yarn or want to make changes to size, etc., please calculate your needed yardage independently or give us a call and we can help you out!

Regarding pillow forms: It is recommended to put a pillow form in your work that is an inch bigger than the work. See below for what we used for our samples.

Knit: Hytte Pillow by The Petite Knitter/Weichien Chan

Suggested yarn: Berroco UltraWool Chunky

1 skein each of 2 different colors (2 skeins total)

Our sample was made with colors Black and White.

The sample used up all the yarn, leaving just enough to sew it all together.

Needle size: We used a US 10.5. Knitter's Pride Dreamz 32" needles work well for this project.

Pillow form: The pillow form we used is 14" x 14". The knitted pillow was 13" x 13".

Crochet: Maisy Velvet Pillow by Toni Lipsey

Suggested yarn: Berroco UltraWool Chunky

1 skein each of 3 colors and 2 skeins of a 4th color (5 skeins total)

For our sample, we decided to change the direction and size of the stripes on each side. (Both sides are shown above.)

Our sample was made with 1 skein each of Granite, Lavender, and Heather, along with 2 skeins of Frost.

Hook size: We used the recommended size, a J hook. Knitter's Pride Dreamz hooks work well for this project.

Pillow form: The pillow form we used is 17" x 17". The crocheted pillow was 16" x 16".
