2025 Rhinebeck Craftalong
Each year, The Endless Skein organizes a Craftalong that culminates the weekend of the Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, New York. This year we gave you a choice of shawls for our Rhinebeck Craftalong project.
The votes are in! The winners are SSP (Slip Stitch Party) by Isabell Kraemer for the knitters and The Oriole Triangle Scarf by Hailey Bailey for the crocheters.

We hope you'll join us in making one of these shawls, for our fourth annual Rhinebeck Craftalong! Here's how it will work:
1) Let us know that you would like to participate! Sign up in store, contact us via our website, or give us a call. It's free to join! Attendance at all events is optional; you can attend as many or as few as you like.
2) Purchase your materials! We ask that you purchase most of your materials from The Endless Skein, though we understand if you have stash yarn you want to use. As a participant, you will receive 10% off yarn for your Rhinebeck Shawl. Let us know if you would prefer to use the 10% discount on yarn for your shawl in our online store and we can send you a coupon code. See below for our yarn suggestions and planning guide!
3) Get started! We will be hosting a free Kickoff Event for participants on Saturday, June 14 (Worldwide Knit in Public Day) from 3:00-4:30pm! Join us as we all begin our shawls, with refreshments! Advance registration is suggested.
We will be available all day to help with yarn selection and gauge checks.
If you need additional help with your Rhinebeck Shawl at any point in the process, you can reach out to us to schedule Project Help or a Private Lesson. Fees for these appointments will apply, as per our help policy.
4) Check in at meetups! We will have meetups at our Open Crafting sessions, every Saturday from 3-4:30pm, to cheer each other on.

Yarn Suggestions and Planning Guide -- SSP Shawl

Images above are from Ravelry.
For the SSP Shawl (knit), the designer recommends using a Heavy Fingering (1-Weight/Super Fine), Sport (2-Weight/Fine), or Light DK (3-Weight/Light) yarn.
If you are experienced in resizing a pattern, this shawl can be personalized and worked in a lighter or heavier weight yarn. That said, we have many great yarn options in the recommended weights!
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but will affect yardage and final shawl size.
Gauge for the SSP Shawl is 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch on a suggested US 4 or 3.5mm needle.
Here are the recommended gauges for each of the slip stitch patterns:
Slip stitch pattern 1: 22 sts x 31 rows = 4” (10 cm)
Slip stitch pattern 2: 22 sts x 35 rows = 4” (10 cm)
Slip stitch pattern 3: 22 sts x 48 rows = 4” (10 cm)
To swatch the different pattern stitches for the SSP Shawl, the designer suggests casting on 26 sts and working at least 4 repeats of slip stitch pattern 1, and 8 repeats each of slip stitch pattern 2 & 3.
Whichever yarn you choose, we recommend creating generous gauge swatches that are at least 6 inches square so that you get good practice on the stitch patterns. Soak and completely dry your swatches before measuring gauge.

Yarn Suggestions and Planning Guide -- Oriole Triangle Scarf

Images above are from Ravelry.
For the Oriole Triangle Scarf (crocheted), a Worsted-Weight (4-Weight/Medium) yarn is suggested.
If you are experienced in resizing a pattern, this pattern can be personalized and worked in a lighter or heavier weight yarn. That said, we have many great yarn options in the recommended weight!
Gauge for the Oriole Triangle Scarf is not given, but we recommend creating a generous gauge swatch that is at least 6 inches square to practice the colorwork and to make sure you like the fabric you get with the yarn and hook size you have chosen. The pattern suggests using a K-hook (6.5 mm).
